Yesterday when we heard the speaker from the Parents Circle
it really made me think of the whole Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a new
light. I’ve never spoken to people who had direct family members be murdered by
the opposition. The man’s story of his daughter made me very emotional, and his
whole mindset on how to cope with his loss was amazing to me. When he said he
tried to return back to normal life after his daughter died I was sensing that
he was going to say that he couldn’t, which he did. He knew his life was going
to be different and he in my eyes is making the best of his situation by
striving for peace. Their whole way of going about the conflict is admirable. Revenge
is in peoples human nature. I know if I lost a family member from an incident
like they experienced I will try to smite the opposition. This whole Parents
Circle program is great and I’m happy it exists. Just seeing these two Israeli
and Palestinian people bonding over their loss on such a deep level and trying
to change how things are through peace is a new way to go about the issue
By presenting their stories at both Israeli and Palestinian children
in school I am a strong believer that they can change the minds of the youth.
Seeing each other as people and not dehumanizing one another is a step towards
peace. I don’t agree though with the man’s statement where he said you can’t
change the mind f the army from within. I think if enough inspired young soldiers
come in with the mindset for peace and also viewing the Palestinians as people
progress can be made. I am pro two state solution. I think it will happen one
day, but that will be left up to the leaders of the nation
