The
city of Sderot was very interesting to me when we visited. It made me puzzle
why people would want to live in a city that is so dangerous. Seeing all of the
bombs that had hit Sderot was very sentimental to me. Having so many Jews live
a mile from Gaza and live quite ordinary lives at that is something I really
don’t get. Well I didn’t get it at first at least. After hearing our guide who
showed us the rockets and hearing his story of how Sderot was home to him was
very impressive. The whole sense that he had that if he moved away he would be
letting the bad Palestinians of Hamas win. I really hate the fact that it costs
the Israeli government so much money to destroy very cheaply made rockets.
Hearing his story of how he had raised his family and two sons in Sderot and
how he worried for their lives constantly but knew they were raised just as
strong as he was. I really liked the part of his story where he said “every
time a bomb goes off it’s like a mini family reunion because usually my two
sons and I are always at the scene
After
we were done with our guide in Sderot, I was very happy we went to the Kibbutz.
Again it was astounding to me how this Kibbutz pretty much bordered Gaza, but
yet these people that lived there seemed to live peaceful lives. It was great
seeing Leah and my other friend who lived on the Kibbutz Shayna, I went to high
school with both of them. I hadn’t seen either of them in about two years so it
was a great little reunion. It was interesting to see how much they have grown as
people and how being in the IDF has defiantly made them more mature. It really
makes me evaluate my life against theirs and compare the differences we have in
our everyday lives. I’ve been enjoying my time in Israel and hope they continue.
